17 Feb Fly to Hawaii with Alaska Airlines at the Garden Show
This year garden show attendees can get a taste for the tropical Hawaiian Islands courtesy of Alaska Airlines – just by visiting the show garden. Alaska is creating a lush green garden in the show’s South Lobby that should make you feel like you just landed on Kauai. Look for a detailed wood carving depicting icons of Hawaii, and of course a colorful surfboard too. Two vertical green walls will be planted with tropicals, many in flower.
Molly Brown, manager of advertising and promotions for Alaska Airlines, is enthusiastic about the garden. “We want to invite people to experience a piece of paradise with our Hawaiian-themed garden. It will be staffed by our own employees, many of them Pacific Islanders themselves. The garden conveys the passion Alaska Airlines has for the Islands of Hawaii.”
Alaska Airlines operates well over 100 nonstop flights a week to four Hawaiian Islands from the West Coast and Alaska, with convenient departures from eight cities to Honolulu, Maui, Kauai or Kona. Knowing that garden show attendees love to visit far-away gardens, they are offering a Hawaiian Island Garden Guide. The guide features some of the most enticing botanical gardens and arboretums on the Islands, perfect for garden lovers to visit the next time they travel to Hawaii.
Maggie Green, owner of GreenStone Design, is working with Alaska Airlines to design the garden. “We wanted a strong influence of the kind of plants you would see when you were visiting there, in keeping with the special promotion of the Hawaii Flyaway that the airline is doing. So we’re gathering up a lot of plants commonly seen in Hawaii, and forcing many into bloom.”
Garden show attendees can always use a strong dose of tropical fantasy in February, and they will get that with the Alaska Airlines garden. And in case you haven’t heard, Alaska Airlines is teaming up with the Grand Hyatt Kauai and the Northwest Flower & Garden Show offering an all new prize package – the Hawaii Flyaway.
