Design a Garden – Week 6 Hardscapes

Design a Garden – Week 6 Hardscapes

When you think about designing a garden, one of the most important considerations will be the elements that will become a permanent part of the landscape – the hardscape. It’s the stone used for patios and walls that will endure through decades, when many of the plants will come and go. That’s why it’s important to get the hardscapes right the first time – and to make sure you can choose from the widest selection to find just the right stone to enhance your dream garden.

Marenakos Rock Center in Issaquah has been a fixture in the Northwest landscape community for over 40 years. The company was founded by Bill Marenakos and primarily dealt in landscape boulders. Today, Marenakos Rock Center is in its third generation of family ownership and has evolved into a full service stone yard and fabrication facility. They want every person who visits Marenakos Rock Center to feel they have enjoyed a truly unique experience – and unique it will be, for there’s nowhere else you can stroll 8 acres of incredible stone!

And the Northwest Flower & Garden Show has teamed up with the experts at Marenakos Rock Center every year since its start to supply the incredible boulders and stone used in our show gardens. Tons and tons of rock, all carefully selected by our designers to create their inspiring gardens, and set into place by the pros at Marenakos.

In Week 6 of our Design a Garden, based on the theme you choose in earlier voting, the Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun,” designer Lloyd Glasscock of Looking Class Design, and contractor John Stout, with Terra Firma Hardscapes, have teamed up with the people at Marenakos Rock Center to select three groups of stone. Each group has ‘Flagstone,’ which will be used for walkways and patios, and ‘Ledgestone,’ which will be used for walls and step risers.

Below are 3 groups of hardscape for you to vote on – just clink on the Northwest Flower & Garden Show link and it takes you to our voting page. And remember, every time you vote for each new design category, you can enter our grand prizeAll That Jazz” contest, and win 2 nights lodging at the Seattle Sheraton, 4 tickets to the show, and $250 cash for a spending spree! ~Janet
