03 Mar Sugar Snaps
I am gearing up to plant peas next week, as long as the rain stops, and I wanted to talk to you about my experience with TYPES of peas to plant. The kids and I both love the sugar snaps-in fact that is the only kind they will eat-and bar none the best variety we have tasted is the “Oregon Sugar Pod” by Lilly Miller. Seriously, I don’t even like to try the other sugar snaps anymore because they just cannot compare.
Now, I can’t find the “Oregon Sugar Pod” this year, but there is a new “Oregon Sugar Pod II” and an “Organic Oregon Sugar Pod”, both also by Lilly Miller/Ferry-Morse, so I will be trying them both and reporting the findings to you.
According to Ed Hume’s Gardening Almanac, this week is the time to:
- Repot and Groom Houseplants
- Plant perennials and biennials
- Start begonias
- Plant radishes
- Eliminate slugs
- Prune roses
- Destroy hard-to-kill weeds
- Apply herbicides
- Dormant spray
- Fertilize roses and evergreens
- Fertilize lawn, trees and shrubs
- Prune shrubs
- Sow seeds of root crops
Any of these on your To-Do List this week? A few are on mine. Comment and let me know.
If you get a chance, check out Jasmine’s blog. Today’s post is all about garden tiles and they are really, really pretty.
