Born in England, Karen grew up a trowel in her hand. After moving to the Pacific Northwest in 1996 she joined Molbak’s Garden & Home as a garden plant specialist before establishing Le Jardinet in 2006. While initially specializing in custom container gardens, Karen now applies that same attention to detail to designing functional and artistic landscapes. As the container gardening instructor at Edmonds Community College Karen has had the opportunity to challenge students to strive for excellence while her own container garden designs and articles have been featured in many publications including Fine Gardening, Country Gardens and Garden Design. She is co-author with Christina Salwitz of Gardening with Foliage First: 127 Dazzling Combinations that Pair the Beauty of Leaves with Flowers, Bark, Berries, and More, just released by Timber Press and already a triple #1 Amazon.com best-seller! They also co-authored the award-winning book Fine Foliage (St. Lynn’s Press, 2013). Karen also writes design articles on two blogs and is a regular contributor to several publications, including Fine Gardening. Karen has appeared on local television and radio stations and teaches two online garden design courses for Craftsy.com including “Gorgeous Garden Design.” The course “Foliage & Focal Points” was mostly filmed in her own 5-acre garden in Duvall.
Inspired by our hugely popular “Garden Wars,” we’re taking the battle to container gardening, perfect for patios, decks and balconies. Drawing from identical plant materials, Karen Chapman will ‘compete’ against Sue Goetz as they each create 3 gorgeous containers—all in under an hour! Working against the clock, and with fun “challenges” thrown at them by Master of Ceremonies Marianne Binetti, see how Karen pulls together plants and shares her tips for designing luscious container gardens.
