Partnering With Great Plant Picks

Partnering With Great Plant Picks

With only 158 days until the Northwest Flower & Garden Show, we want to share how we’re bringing the most colorful and vibrant Show yet. We are partnering with Great Plant Picks to add more spring in February with container garden displays that will be scattered around the Show! You’ll want to check the plant tags on these beauties because they’ve gone through a strict standard to be there.

The 2014 Great Plant Picks poster was "Plants That Make Scents," fragrant Pacific Northwest-friendly plants. The 2015 poster "Celebrate Spring" will be handed out at the Northwest Flower & Garden Show this year.

Great Plant Picks (GPP) is a Northwest non-profit organization dedicated to compiling exceptional plants just for the Pacific Northwest. Yep, just for us. They are an incredible resource for Pacific Northwest gardeners because every plant chosen by GPP must be:

  • hardy in USDA Zones 7-8
  • available from multiple nurseries (Easy to find!)
  • simple to grow and maintain
  • long-lasting in the garden
  • and more rigorous critera

With over 900 plants and counting in the GPP directory, it’s a must to use the Directory search. Photographs and detailed plant information is available to use for anyone. You can search by conditions, plant type, flower color, and even fragrance!

A long time tradition at the Northwest Flower & Garden Show is the debut of the free Great Plant Picks poster. It shows off the latest and greatest plants chosen by the GPP committee. The past few years were themed with sun-loving plants, “Made in the Shade” for shade gardens, and aromatic plants in”Plants That Make Scents.”
The 2015 poster theme will be “Celebrate Spring” with flowers and foliage outstanding in the springtime. Pick one up at the Show to brighten your wall and your garden. Keep an eye out, you may see some of these spring themed plants in the GPP containers.

You won’t want to miss one of the supervisors of GPP, Richie Steffen speaking Sunday the 15th at 4:15 pm on “Great Plant Picks: Making the Best Spring Garden.” Get inspired by the Great Plant Picks spring container gardens when you make your visit to the 2015 Northwest Flower & Garden Show, February 11th-15th. See Richie’s seminar on Sunday and stop by their booth for your free GPP poster for the year too!
